SmartMove Newsletter – May 2011

#9 – May 2011

With the kick off of the UN Decade of action for road safety, the bus and coach industry, as a key contributor to safer mobility, is showcasing its achievements and targeted initiatives in this domain. Coaches are also becoming serious competitors to air and rail travel, as they are made increasingly comfortable for long distance trips, while retaining their flexibility, safety, fuel-efficiency and affordability advantages.

So follow the example of the Italian Tourism authorities, which have heard the industry’s proposals for better coach tourism services, and…make the Smart Move!

New Jumbo Bus for GPN Finland!

Reissu Ruoti has a brand new coach, a 66-seater Scania OmniExpress 360.  It is the biggest coach in the company’s  50-plus- year history. Group sizes have grown in Finland, and the need for big coaches has also increased over the last few years.   The new  66-seater coach is 14,95 meters long.  It is called “Jumbo” because of its large size.  The local company Lahden Autokori Oy made this coach especially for Reissu Ruoti, and it will be most of the summer season in Helsinki for cruise tourist shore excursions.

At the beginning of June, Finland has a bus exhibition in the city of Lahti, where you can see our Jumbo on display.  The Bus2011 exhibition brings together coach companies from all over the Finland every year.  This year, it will be held in Lahti.  There you can also see many of Charter Finland and GPN Finland members. If you are interested in knowing more about the Bus2011 Lahti exhibition, you can contact Bus Travel Oy Reissu Ruoti, Tel. +3583 7878120, or reservation@reissuruoti.fi

Marti/GPN Switzerland Exceeds Quality and Comfort Standards with New Coaches

Marti’s 5-star-coaches spoil their customers with comfort and luxury, while remaining the most environmentally friendly means of transportation.  For the new travel season, Marti has just received a delivery of eight new Setra coaches that all meet the highest European EEV emission standards.

EEV reflects the highest emission standard applicable for commercial vehicles in Europe. EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) exceeds the current Euro-5 emissions standards through substantial reduction of particulate matter and nitric oxide. Marti has voluntarily invested in becoming a leader in coach ecology,  since EEV is neither required by Swiss regulations, nor is it subsidized.

The new coaches also exceed the well-known comfort standards of the Marti fleet. All service facilities (extensive onboard kitchen and toilette) have been moved into the rear of the coach in order to provide for extra comfortable entryways that meet the requirements of a demanding clientele. Luxury seats in an offset mounting guarantee for optimal seating comfort and the 5-star classification standards from the German gbk-organization allow for a generous distance of 90cm between seats.

Marti is one of Switzerland’s leading coach operators. The annual investment in new vehicles is part of the quality strategy of the 109-year-old, family-owned company.

Morn in May

Summer knocked on Reykjavik´s door on May 2 at 12:30. The previous day, Labour Day, it snowed. As soon as summer arrived and the temperature rose to 11°C, the saturnine inhabitants of the capital shed their moody attire and smiled at the sun. Young and old, girls and boys were all of a sudden skipping ropes and playing outside the houses without being clad as they were going to the North Pole. Some say it will be a good summer – others are not so optimistic. The Icelanders love all kinds of rhymed, four line stanzas and some people know an infinite number of such rhymes for every occasion. Those who can ad lib deliver rhymes are considered clever and wise, the ones you can read backwards are the most famous – giving an opposite meaning to the words. A clergyman that lived in the North of Iceland at the beginning of the twentieth century wrote rhymes in Icelandic and English as he had studied in Scotland and lived in Canada for years. One of his best known rhymes is about an unknown girl – maybe his immortal beloved. The clergyman however remained a bachelor all his life. She is fine as morn in May. Mild, divine and clever. Like a shining summer day. She is mine forever. Agnar is busy as ever having all his busses prepared for our summer guests – we have added 8 brand new busses to our fleet – 3 VDL Bova coaches and 5 MD Sprinters. Hopefully there will be a lot going on in Iceland to tempt people to come and see us and travel with us – even though we cannot promise an exciting volcaninc outburst like last year. We send all our friends at GPN our best wishes for a wonderful summer, may your business „bloom and grow forever“!
