VDL Bus & Coach: Profit of Ownership
One of the VDL Bus & Coach brand values is Profit of Ownership. Carefully considered lightweight concepts, aerodynamic design, and the most optimal drivelines with low fuel consumption ensure the highest possible profitability. This results in a product range with which an operator can be more profitable. This is naturally also of essential importance with the arrival of Euro 6 and was one of the cornerstones for the VDL Bus & Coach Euro 6 strategy.
Profit of Ownership and Euro 6
As an independent bus manufacturer, VDL Bus & Coach is able to choose from all the available suppliers and components to assemble the most ideal vehicle for each operating area. Keeping in mind the enormous impact of the Euro 6 technology on existing vehicle concepts, these choices were made while keeping a number of essential conditions in mind. In addition to reliability, quality
and optimal tuning of the driveline, maintaining the low net weight is critical in order to continue to profit from the benefits of reduced fuel consumption and lower repair and maintenance costs. The choices must also be made without having a negative impact for the interior arrangement, especially in the case of the public transport buses, in terms of the number of seating and standing
spaces.
Top partners
To achieve these goals VDL Bus & Coach continues its collaboration with DAF, Cummins, ZF, Voith and Dana. For the public transport segment, FPT (Fiat Powertrain Technologies) engines will now be used as well. VDL Bus & Coach is convinced that the proven technology of the DAF and Cummins engines will remain strong in the Euro 6 products. The installation of the DAF MX 13 and Cummins ISB6.7 has no consequences for the interior or its arrangement, and the weight gain is minimal. FPT Cursor 9 equipped buses in the Citea range also meet these requirements. In addition, FPT provides support in the areas of technology, service and parts. FPT will therefore also be completely integrated in the VDL Bus & Coach service processes, which consist of the European-wide service network with coverage throughout Europe, supported from the head office by the Central Service department, and VDL Parts, backed by a European-wide network gets parts where they are needed.
Ready for the future
Put simply, even with Euro 6, VDL Bus & Coach continues providing its customers with a futureready product range. The finely tuned drivelines and lightweight concepts result in lower fuel consumption and lower maintenance and repair costs. An optimal transport capacity ensures that the most ideal choice can be made for every operating area. Profit of Ownership as it should be.
